Hope you’re having a fabulous week! Earlier this month, we got to take on an amazing project for a close friend in Ohio involving a family headboard she inherited from her grandmother. She came to us with the headboard pieces and basically gave us the green light to transform the wood into something new that she could use in her home now. Talk about trust! See the full post for before/after photos and process shots!

We are hopping, skipping, and jumping today because we are launching not one, but TWO new frame styles in the Etsy shop (custom sizes available on the website soon!) Read the full post for more bohemian minimalist goodness. 🙂

Nothing says ‘bohemian minimalism’ quite like solid walnut + natural, vegetable-tanned leather. During the building process, we hand-mill and plane each board and then cut the walnut to size, which makes the wood shop smell amazing. The character in each piece, the knots and grains, tell a unique story, so each heirloom-quality frame is truly one-of-a-kind, just like the bohemian minimalist.
Need one for your space? You can now find standard sizes available here. Custom sizes coming to the website soon!

If you’re anything like me, mornings are a daily struggle…like, literally. I am determined to be a morning person in my next life (also determined to be Beyoncé, but I’ll save that for a different blog post), but for now, I’m more of a “hit snooze until I have 5 minutes to get ready and then chug coffee until I’m jittery” kinda gal. That being said, I am so tired of feeling rushed in the morning and starting work without feeling centered, so one of David’s and my February goals is to make the most out of our pre-work hours. Keep reading for a few of our non-morning-person morning tips that we’re trying out this month.
Happy Friday! We have had the craziest week prepping for a local event (like working-until-midnight three-nights-in-a-row crazy), so a traditional date night wasn’t going to happen. That being said, we still wanted to carve out some intentional time and save some money in the process. Keep reading for a few of our tips for the perfect date night in and scroll to the bottom for the first weekly building relationships community challenge!

We are David + Carlen, creative entrepreneurs behind host & toast, an online shop for the creative bride and groom. As a husband and wife team, we spend A LOT of time together (like 24/7), so working on our marriage is a daily venture.
SO, TELL ME WHAT YOU WANT, WHAT YOU REALLY REALLY WANT!
At the beginning of 2015, David and I sat down to business plan for host & toast (with wine, of course), and that conversation evolved into a passionate discussion that resulted in a chicken-scratched list of the things we really want in life (thank you, glass #2 of said wine).
Number one on our list? A genuine community of authentic people navigating real relationships. We want to invest our time with couples who are honest about the daily ups and downs, but who still put in the effort to make their marriage amazing. Thus, the “blog community” idea was born.
“BLOG COMMUNITY”…WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?
We’ve all seen the curated wedding blogs and the inspiring Pinterest boards centered around planning the perfect wedding day, but what we haven’t seen yet is an equally inspiring feed focused on navigating the daily ins and outs of the marriage adventure.
Our vision for this “blog community” is to curate a visually inspiring platform of creative ideas, tips, and open discussion topics to inspire engaged and married couples to plan a gorgeous and intentional wedding, establish a beautiful home together, and keep working to make their relationship better than the day before.
SO, WHAT WILL I FIND HERE?
- Wedding inspiration
- Discussion topics + guides
- DIY projects
- Date night ideas + recipes
- Wedding planning tips
- Home decor + styling

BOTTOM LINE? We’ve got some wedding and relationship tips and tricks in our back pocket that we’d love to share, but our intention is to create a community discussion where we can all learn from each other. So, don’t be afraid to join the conversation!
